Hello! If we haven’t met yet, I’m Leslie.
I am a mother of four, a grandmother, a passionate gardener, a social and environmental justice activist, and I have been serving as a City Councillor for Nelson over the past 4 years.
I care. I am curious to know my neighbours. If they need help, I want them to know they can depend on me. I want to welcome new people to the community and invite them to join the social fabric of the distinct neighbourhoods that make up our town. The widening wealth gap is concerning. We have more visits to the Food Bank, severe residential insecurity and, at the same time, more million dollar homes and luxury cars.
We have enough for everyone.
City Council needs to hold this vision. Municipal government needs to invite citizens in to share their experiences, ideas and energy to make big, bold ideas come alive. Town halls, block parties, open houses for city departments, conversation cafes… Let’s have some fun together, learn what we have in common and move towards an inspiring future.
I have a passion for community engagement, with strong organisational skills and the proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects. On my campaign I will be asking folks, “What do you need to become more engaged?”
As a community, we are facing some significant challenges that are going to become much more daunting in the face of the intersecting emergencies.
I love a challenge. I only participate where I feel strongly I can add value. Together we can make a difference.
